Voice Messages

Have you noticed the time you spend by leaving voicemails for people? Typically, when you call someone and get voicemail, you get something like this:

‘Hi, this is Mary. I can’t get to the phone right now, but if you leave your name and number, I’ll get back to you as soon as possible. Bye.’

Simple, right? But as if these instructions were not enough, you also get extra instructions from a lady robot:

‘To page this person, press 5 now………. At the tone, please record your message. When you finish recording, you may hang up, or press pound for more options………..BEEP!’

I understand that during the Bush era we’ve become dumber, but come on… We need instructions on how to leave messages? Plus these instructions take a full minute. What’s next? Maybe an elevator?

‘Hi, this is an elevator. To go up or down, please reach to the right, lift your finger, and press the button of your choice. When you get to your destination, you may leave, or if you got to the wrong level, press the button again for more options.’
