From The Music Department: The Knife

For a country living half the year in darkness, Sweden really knows how to transmit flamboyance into their musical exports with duos like The Knife. I first became a fan when I discovered that the voice behind Royksopp’s hit song ‘What Else Is There’ was The Knife’s Karin Dreijer. She has one of the best voices in Indie music. An exquisite combination of Björk, Stevie Nicks and Cyndi Lauper.

Here I present you ‘Heartbeats’, part of their Deep Cuts album. When you see this video, think eighties nights: clever electro synth beats and wonderful vocals transmitting fun and nostalgia at the same time. I really like this video, but it might be a bit… different for some of you.

The Knife’s music is the perfect example of how wonderful fresh retro music sounds when it’s re-evaluated on the right mind. Karin and Olof Dreijer are siblings… and I really want to meet their parents.
